Take Rick, who doesn’t want to be in a hospital, add one bitch-nurse and you get instant asshole! I can’t seem to stop myself. I just pulled a ‘nasty’ on one of the good nurses and I shouldn’t have.
Last night, I asked the nurse assigned to my room a simple question; Can you give me something for gas? Her answer, “Best thing to do is get up and walk around”. Getting up and walking around is only hampered by pain, but it’s doable. She must not have heard of Gas-X or the hospital doesn’t stock it. Other responses she spewed last night lead me to believe she is just a piss-poor nurse (PPN). She’s very good at telling time: “It’s 2 hours until you can have more pain medication”. This nurse strikes me as one who wants to do just enough to get a paycheck. She doesn’t come across as one who cares about her patients.
My good nurse, Kristin’s response to the same question: “I’ll see what we have” was a way better response. I shouldn’t have added: “I’ve asked my wife to bring Gas-X to me”. Needless-to-say, Kristin said “They don’t like patients to bring-in meds without the doctors’ knowledge”. Kristin’s right! I understand why. I just made her a victim of my irritation with her colleague’s crappy attitude. I’m sorry!!
Kristin’s been very good. She’s working with me to try to keep the pain moderated. Example; The doctor stretched my med interval from every 4 to every 6 hours last night. The meds weren’t lasting the 4 hours, let alone 6. They have me on Dilaudid, 2 mg per dose. I asked Kristin if we could split the dose and do every 3 hours. She’s all for it! So we’re givin’ it a try.
She’s soooo good, she just brought me something for gas while I was writing this post. PPN’s like the one I’ve experienced here, become part of my irritation and intolerance while being held prisoner in the hospital. I’m trying not to share that irritation with the good ones.

Remember how you used to feel as a kid about being stuck indoors when you could be outside playing? How ’bout as an adult, feeling stuck indoors on a beautiful day (like today)? That’s how I feel right now!!
If it weren’t for the pain, being stuck here in the hospital would be unbearable.

It ‘s hard to sleep through belly pain. Diverticulosis can be painful and difficult to live with. The last couple of days has been no exception. Last night was really rough. There was more pain than usual during an attack. It was accompanied by a deep body trembling chill and a mild fever.
Here I am, incarcerated again in the hospital at 7:30pm. The “adventure” started at 8:30am this morning in the E.R. There were less than a dozen people their when we arrived. Not too bad a wait to get in. Once the doctor was convinced that the diverticuli hadn’t perforated he was generous with the pain meds. Finally – relief!! Sort-of, the meds didn’t seem to take at first. The first round was morphine and it didn’t work!! I’m not sure what was finally used this evening, but the pain is under control and I might be able to sleep tonight.
After the CAT scan, the doctor determined I needed to be admitted so they could dump massive-quantities of antibiotic through a “straw” into my body. He confirmed diverticulitis. It’s likely I’ll be here ’til Sunday. With my luck and hospitals, it’ll be just long enough for me to become nasty and obnoxious. I’m not a “good patient”. It’s also possible I’ll be here ’til Monday too. That sets the odds of reaching the obnoxious stage, better than average.
It’ll be a while before I sound up-beat about not having an attack for nearly a year, as both my Mom and Dad pointed-out.
This really sucks!

I was awaken last night by 2 freaked-out women, Denette and Jessica, around 10:45pm. Someone was shot and lying in the driveway across the street. The neighbour was on the phone calling 911 when Jessica was on her way out and overheard the drama unfolding. Needless-to-say she came back in the house a little rattled, told her mother what was going-on and I was awaken in-turn.

Tomorrow brings the greatest gift our species can possibly know (at least in my immediate family) … Perpetuation! A New Generation!! My Grandson!!!
This “simple gift” we call “child-birth”, can’t be diminished by the masses, is only truly experienced by immediate family and, yet, IS enhanced and, at least “influenced” by … everyone else?!?!?!
Certainly; It’s a matter of perspective!
I don’t think SO! I think one universal is … “That’s My Little-Girl” … xxxx….
You fill-in the number of times the “X” ‘means something’!
Don’t diminish “her” glory because, I’m unable to extol “her” virtues. But, that’s my “little-girl”. She’s getting another lesson from H.K.U. (Hard Knocks University). “I hope I prepared her for this challenge”.
Ultimately, it’s not tough for Uncles and Aunts to `miss` a “new” family member’s “Grand Appearance”. Grand-children arriving seems to be a little different tune!
As a “Dad”, I care little about everything-else! I just want my daughter to be happy and “treated-like-a-princess”. Most importantly, be healthy and safe! For the rest of her life!!!
Doctor’s – Nurse’s … Take-Care of my Little-Girl!
Is that too much to ask?

The Dolphins kicked-ass yesterday. They even looked liked they deserved to win. Go Henne!!!
If they win next week against the Jets, they might have a hope for division Championship again.

While the inane spats of YouTube commencers may not be representative, the internet has certainly sharpened the tone of debate. The most raucous sections of the blogworld seem incapable of accepting sincerely held differences of opinion; all opponents must have “agendas”.
Whether or not you agree with the above comment isn’t the point. It’s how we express ourselves while on the Internet that displays our humanity, or rather our in-humanity. We see this well displayed in recent commercials targeted at our children. Ya know the cyber-bullying commercials. “If you wouldn’t say it in person…”. I think we can all agree that if we have commercials on this topic, a problem must exist.
10 years ago, when the Internet was still young, many of us joked that WWW didn’t stand for “World-Wide Web”, it stood for “Wild, Wild West”. Anonymity seems to bring-out the worst in people. Back then, being “flamed” by another user was insulting, but common. The fear of reprisal was non-existent. Many people “shot from the hip”.

Since we moved to Orlando I just don’t seem to be able to see the games on TV. Yeah, it was my fault for sleeping instead of watching the game Monday night. But otherwise, not many Dolphins games are shown on TV in the area. I’m inundated with Jacksonville Jags and Tampa Bucks – But, No Dolphins.
Part of the issue, I’m sure, is the fact that we’re only receiving over-the-air TV. The past year has been a bitch with Denette being unemployed for 6-7 months, resulting in paring back on services to save $$ like so many other folks these days.
I’m not a “sports nut” like many guys, though I have been a life-long Dolphins fan. This was mostly a result of age and proximity I’m sure, since I grew-up in South Florida. Now that we’ve moved north, besides family, it’s the only thing I miss. With all the new channels coming on-line since the digital transition, can’t we have one of ‘em follow and broadcast the Dolphins games in Orlando?

The great irony of technology is it’s ability to benefit one group while at the very same time hindering another. China and Iran have recently discovered the power of technology might exceed their ability to censor their citizen’s Internet activity. All this is very evident in the myriad of news articles released in the past 2 weeks.
