I’ve decided to revert back to WordPress for this site. The other framework installed here required continual reprogramming for the addition of features. That’s something I do all day at work, that I’d rather not have to do when I’m off.

I have retained the old galleries and will integrate them in time. I hope to be able to make image handling a little smoother. I’ll let you know when it’s ready.

User names and passwords have been reverted to what they were before I took down the WP installation in November of last year.

Some images do not appear as they should. Bear-with as I make corrections while reverting back to WP.

When I was in school, we were taught that Republicans are fiscal conservatives. Until G. Dubya Bush came along, I might have agreed. Articles located at the Washington Post and New York Times are enlightening. I snatched these graphics from New York Times. A picture is indeed worth a thousand words.

Let’s set the record straight. Republicans are NOT fiscally conservative. The Democrats have done a better job handling our money. Further, the Great Recession is directly attributable to G. Dubya Bush.

In the final analysis, Presidential Republicans have done more to screw the U.S.A. than ANY of the Democratic Presidents in recent history (as far back as Carter). AFAIAC: If the Republicans want the checkbook back, they’ll have to do way better than they’ve done in the past – current Congress included. Unfortunately, the Tea-baggers aren’t the answer. The message is good. It’s just that the associated extremism is unhealthy.

For those that wish to insist that Obama has had plenty of time to better the job market and improve the economy, you’re right. He has not done a very good job putting people back to work. But, you need to remember – Republicans got us into this mess and they’re not helping to get us out. Further, I’ve yet to hear anything from the Republicans that engenders trust or cooperation. The old dogs need to learn new tricks.

There was time I was a registered Republican. I switched in 2004 to Independent. I did so because the Republican party lost it’s way by incorporating the Christian-right-wing-nuts into the party years earlier. During the Dubya years war expenses were hidden, the Patriot Act was passed which eroded our freedoms, and the Republicans, in general, became the party of NO!

Here we are nearly 8 years later. The Republicans are still lost;

They have tried to appease the Tea Party by incorporating them into their ranks. While the initial message of the Tea party is good, the radical attitude diminishes the Republican party as a whole and dilutes the message. If they’re only going to worry about Tea party members, they are lost.

Republican candidates for president are poor with few exceptions. Some are old losers (Barbour, Gingrich, Paul), at least one is a quitter (Palin), we now have a homophobe (Bachman) in the running, Americans are mormonophobes (Huntsman, Romney) so those candidates are losers by default.

I read today where president Obama has raised some 86 million from April to June this year. Combined (yep I mean a total of) 35.5 million was raised by ALL Republican candidates during the same period. Hello! Republicans!! Anyone home!!! Have the right-wing radicals (a.k.a.; Republicans) run out of money? Or has the party credibility finally tanked?

I, for one, continue to become increasingly annoyed with politicians. The news is all abuzz about raising the debt ceiling. It’s agreed they need to. It’s agreed not doing so would be severely detrimental to our country. This is a rather logical endeavour.

The U.S.A. is over budget. The government spends more than it takes-in. Two alternatives exist; Spend less or Tax more. I believe most of us, given a similar set of circumstances would do both to get things back in balance. I mean, if I had the ability I’d increase my revenue and decrease my expenses. And, I believe most people would do the same. But, not our politicians! They’ll bicker and fight over philosophical issues until the bloody-end.

Boehner and company only want to decrease spending while the president wants to do both, increase revenue and decrease expenses. And, by the way, the president’s proposal would decrease spending far more than his opponents. Yet, rather than operate logically, the Republicans are standing on their philosophy – no new taxes. They’re fighting the logic of what needs to be done. It’s unproductive and in this case may very well be destructive.

They all need to stop wrangling with this issues and get the job done!

Government and politics in the United States has eroded to the extent that it’s a very sad state of affairs. The people are unhappy, somehow believing that insults or outright displays of bigotry and disdain are acceptable, and seem to have disconnected from the reality of what’s supposed to happen in Washington. Further, it appears politicians are unable or unwilling to speak to one another, let alone compromise on issues. They are frequently exposed as ethically challenged and morally bankrupt. The system seems irreparably broken.

Perhaps mistakenly, I was under the impression the political philosophical divide is supposed to be bridged by debate and compromise. Lately it appears both parties, Republicans and Democrats, are subject to close-minded, knee-jerk reaction brought on by a perceived constituent demand. Debate erodes to argument, philosophical positions have turned into fortresses.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the desire to reduce taxes, the deficit and government spending. There’s also nothing wrong with the desire to care for the disadvantaged and the elderly via Healthcare, Welfare and Social Security. The United State can have it all if we’d stop the political pendulum, approach the issues without emotion and execute logical steps.

Look: We all know the system is broken and we need to reduce spending. An admiral goal! Do we go to the extreme, abandon everything accomplished in the United States thus far and terminate entitlements? Would it not be better to identify the things that don’t work and fix ‘em? Maybe even make ‘em better? Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water!

A new civility needs to be attained in politics. Issues need to be thoroughly debated and realistic solutions tendered. Politicians no longer care about what’s good and right for the people. The people have lost faith in the political process. The divide between the government and it’s people grows wider, while trust and faith in government dwindles.

American-Political Jihad anyone?

I, for one, have to extend kudos to the way our forefathers conceived and handled elections. The Electoral College was a master-piece that overcame the time-distance-knowledge disparity between the government and it’s people. Communications back then was way slower – it took weeks or months to get a message from one extreme U.S. border to the other. The general education level of the population was maybe at a third grade level. Further, the average citizen in 1776, wasn’t very knowledgeable about world affairs.

Over the past 200+ years, I’m sure you’ll agree, the United States of America has changed a lot. Americans are a bit smarter, not that completing 12 years of required education means everyone can read. We can now communicate with places and people all over the world instantly – It takes less time to communicate with a spacecraft in orbit around Saturn these days, than getting a letter from Washington D.C. to San Francisco CA. in 1850.

One might conclude that if the underlying “need” to establish the Electoral College no longer exists, the Electoral College would no longer exist. One would be wrong!

While our forefathers did provide a system of checks and balances to base our government upon, subsequent legislators have had little incentive to establish new checks and balances nor review the old during our national growth. Insufficient attention was paid, by our forefathers, to keeping the politicians themselves in-line. This combination has created a political environment that, like many families in America, is utterly dysfunctional.

Intelligent discussion, debate and compromise no longer exists. Politics has erroded to lie, badger and coherce in order to achieve “progress”. And the “progress” that is achieved is often nullified shortly after “the next election”. It’s nullified because election results most often exemplify extremes. Displeasure with elected officials leads to replacement during the next election. Each election year it’s the same, with less getting accomplished each cycle.

Healthcare reform enacted in 2009 was defunded in 2011 by the Republican congress. There was no counter-proposal put forth to pay for the legislation or plan to re-instate funding. We now have a mess AND run-away insurance/medical costs.

In 2008 Barack Obama was elected as president with the promise of Change. The people of America, by-and-large, want Change. In 2010, Republicans gained majority control in congress. Largely thanks to the Tea Party and the “cut-government spending” mantra. The American people want a lean efficient government. The American people want an improved Healthcare System, we want our elderly and disadvantaged cared for, and we want to retire someday. We want the government to help achieve these goals. Telling us “No” without adequate explanation is not an option! Reneging on committments (Social Security, Medicare) made to the current population is equally unacceptable.

The American people have grown considerably over the past 200+ years. The proposition of legislators “knowing what’s best for the public” is long dead and gone. We want viable partners in life and government. It may take another 200 years for the politicians to figure this out. In the mean-time, they’ll “entertain” us with embezzlement, violations of ethical behaviour and back-room deals advantageous to themselves or their favorite donor. All at great detriment to the people of the United States.

Sarah’s re-labeled mainstream media as “lamestream” media. True to her M.O.: If you don’t like something, don’t understand it and/or can’t handle it – call it names! This is the type of thing we expect from children, not from presidents.

Disqualified – Not that she was remotely qualified to begin with. I certainly won’t vote for this babbling idiot.

For those who spew the diatribe “No one would vote for a guy named Newt!”. Funny names don’t really stop voters. We’ve got an Obama after all. Comparatively, Newt is not that strange. With a bit o’ luck, we’ll never have a Skeeter, Gomer or Sparky in office!

This is not a new idea, and I can not take credit for it. It sounds easy, but it’s actually a difficult task…

All we need to do is take away the cushy healthcare plans provided to legislative, judicial and presidental office holders and other government employees. Have them use the same healthcare system the rest of the people use. I’d bet the healthcare problem would be fixed within a year!

The hard part…Getting them to pass a bill that does just that.
